The flavor of each event changes with the parents who are organizing it. This is only a guideline. Be creative and enjoy preparing a fun evening for all!
This one-time event will take several meetings to plan. Start planning at least two months before the scheduled time of the event. One to two months before the event report progress at the monthly PTA meetings. Please keep notes and records for future use.

All School Camping Trip
- Plan and organize camping trip with teachers; assist teachers in planning activities
- Design and print flyer for Friday folder
- Assist with menu planning and food shopping
- Organize food by meals (at campsite)
- Organize parent volunteers for activities, food preparation, and clean-up after meals
Harvest Festival
- Plan a celebration for our fall pumpkin harvest
World Cultures Potluck
- Publicize event: create a flyer for Friday folder for parent volunteers and potluck sign-up
- Assist teachers in planning activities such as ethnic dances and songs
- Coordinate loans of ethnic items (tapestries, photos, instruments) for display
- Decorate classrooms and tables for potluck
- Responsible for set-up and clean-up on the day of the event
Thanksgiving Potluck
- Make a flyer coordinating families for food donation
- Organize plates and silverware
- Organize parent volunteers to help serve the day of event
- Help set table and clean up after event
Winter Sing and Craft Fair
- Plan for suitable songs with teachers
- Publicize event: design flyers for Friday folder and community
- Design and print a program for the performance
- Organize dessert potluck
- Decorate Multi Purpose Room, classrooms and tables for potluck
- Coordinate Craft fair with Publicity/Fundraising Committee (organize sellers from GFS and the community; collect GFS % sales and submit to treasurer)
- Organize parent volunteers for the event
- Responsible for set-up and clean-up on the day of the event
School Plays
- Coordinate with teachers to organize and plan the event
- Design a flyer for the Friday folder
- Design and print a program for the performance
- Prepare Multi Purpose Room; the children design and create the props
- Responsible for set-up and clean-up on the day of the event
Outdoor School
- Parents pick a location for an outdoor school experience and reserve the location well in advance of the date on the calendar
- Help design workshops for the event
- organize parents to volunteer to run the workshops
- Work with the teachers to sign up children for the specific workshops planned
Goleta Green
- Set up and clean up event
- Design and set up bake sale area
- Work with Goleta Green committee to make sure volunteers have a smooth transition
- Help set up stage and decorate area
- Set up GFS both and make sure representatives advertise our school and give out folders
- Do whatever it takes to make sure this day runs smoothly
Move-A-Thon
- Get business organization to support this event
- Organize food and drink for evening event
- Coordinate with Foothill School to use their PA equipment
- Organize music by creating a Move-A-Thon CD or live music for the event
- Make sure Sixth Graders create the course for the Move-A-Thon
- Coordinate Advertising with the Publicity Committee for this event
- Coordinate with the fundraising committee for this event
- Make pledge sheets and send home in Friday folders several weeks ahead of event
- Make flyer to remind families to get pledges for event
- Organize rewards for whole school depending on how much money is raised. (Tiered reward system-magicians, camping trips, sleepovers. parties. etc.)
- Call families to remind them to collect their pledges and turn in their contributions
Teacher Appreciation
- Plan a teacher appreciation event for GFS teachers
- Send out flyers in Friday Folders and by email
- Coordinate with Hospitality committee
- Coordinate with Foothill PTA for the Staff Luncheons several times a year
- Work with our Hospitality committee to make this productive
Graduation
- Coordinate the theme with the 6th grade students
- Purchase all materials needed to create atmosphere to support theme
- Set up and clean up event
- Organize volunteers to help
- Organize music, karaoke or other types of entertainment
- Create slide show of 6th grade graduating class
- Decorate for the event
- Discuss and Design event
